Interviews

Interview with Gurusimran Khalsa (@gurusimran)

James Green · May 14, 2014 ·

In this interview, I got to snag a few moments with GS at an after-party we were both at. I found the quietest location I could and asked my standard questions. GS just took a position at VMware (end of last year I believe?) and was in the process of immersing himself in his new role. He said his own version of what everyone says when I interview them: if there’s anything I should have done sooner, it’s get involved in the virtualization community. Connect with everybody. Here’s a quick overview, but please give it watch – what he shares is valuable!

GS is excited about: It’s a secret! NDA stuff VMware is working on. VSAN is cool though.

GS would like to learn more about: SRM, vSphere Replication, VDP(A)

His career explosion was: Getting involved on Twitter two years ago. Go figure!

Who has most influenced GS: Ken Werneburg (@vmKen)

GS’s advice to himself five years ago: Believe in yourself – you can do more than you think you can.

Interview with Paul Meehan (@paulpmeehan)

James Green · Apr 18, 2014 ·

In this interview, I chat with Paul Meehan (vExpert, VCAP, VCDX candidate) about the industry and what has him excited. Paul is a wonderful guy and great to chat with. I really enjoyed hanging out with him at VFD3 where I captured this interview. You can check out Paul’s blog here: paulpmeehan.com Here’s a quick overview:

Paul is excited about: Open source projects like Openstack, Open Daylight. vCHS.

Paul would like to learn more about: Openstack, HyperV

Paul’s career explosion was: Getting involved in virtualization community

Who has most influenced Paul: Andrea Mauro (@Andrea_Mauro), Michael Webster (@vcdxnz001)

Paul’s advice to Paul five years ago: Be open to relocating

Because of the location we chose, autofocus was killing me on this one, so sorry for that. Other than that detail, I hope you’ll find this quick chat enjoyable! Also, thanks for your time, Paul!

Interview with Eric Wright – @discoposse

James Green · Apr 1, 2014 ·

In this interview, I had the chance to catch up with Eric Wright (@discoposse) – albeit with my camera phone – and chat about the industry. He’s got some valuable nuggets for you, so if you’ve got a couple of minutes, give this a quick watch! Here are some highlights:

Eric is excited about: Automation & orchestration

Eric would like to learn more about: Programming, starting with Python

Eric’s career explosion was: The virtualization community

Who has most influenced Eric: Angelo Luciani (virtuwise.com)

Eric’s advice to Eric five years ago: Start writing/blogging sooner

Eric also gave an AWESOME presentation on community at Virtualization Field Day 3 which relates to what he talks about in this interview. That presentation can be watched in its entirety here.

Interview with Eric Shanks

James Green · Mar 13, 2014 ·

In this interview, I had the opportunity to chat with Eric Shanks of the IT Hollow and the Chicago VMUG about what he’s excited about in virtualization, and about his career. Take a look! Here’s an overview:

Eric is excited about: Hyperconvergence

Eric would like to learn more about: OpenStack and NSX

Eric’s career explosion was: his first VMworld

Who has most influenced Eric: Chris Wahl (wahlnetwork.com)

Eric’s advice to Eric five years ago: Get involved in the virtualization community. NOW!

I love the advice – there has been nothing better for my career than getting involved in the virtualization community. Whether it’s  vBrownBag or Tech Field Day or Twitter, there’s an easy way for you to get involved!

Check Eric out at his blog (theITHollow) or give him a follow on Twitter – @eric_shanks
