StorMagic is a VSA with an emphasis on geographical distribution. We know about the classic problem where we have many branch offices that need an application to run locally (sometimes due to poor app design, sometimes for other reasons). Of course, the branch office is small, and has no dedicated IT staff. There are quite a few different ways to approach and solve this problem, including some good stuff I just wrote about recently like SteelFusion. At any rate, the beauty of the SvSAN product is that it can be centrally managed at a large scale, and can be deployed in fairly small, cost-efficient chunks. This looks to be targeted more towards the SMB market with a lot of focus on simplicity and low cost of entry. I like this, because the fact is that the branch office problem I described is real, and its the SMB customers who don’t have a lot of money to throw at it that usually suffer the most. SvSAN is providing a way out.
