VMTurbo is an interesting one. Their flagship product “Operations Manager” superimposes the idea of supply and demand and economy in general on top of a virtual infrastructure. Infrastructure resources are treated as commodities and the “price” fluctuates with demand. The purpose of this juxtaposition of real world market principles and data center resources is essentially to ensure that your environment is always in an optimal state. VMTurbo also presented at VFD3 and to be honest, I was underwhelmed. Having actually used the product, I found that while the idea is a good one, it requires (or did when I used it) a LOT of input from the user before it can start really living up to the claims. I would like to see it be capable of more out of the box. Perhaps that has already changed though – it’s been a while since I’ve had my hands on it. I do know that the presenter of at least part of the session will be a community figure I have immense respect for, and I’m looking forward to hearing his thoughts on the product. I’m relatively confident he can sway my opinion 😉
